Run

Well hey, that wasn’t sooooo bad. It’s cold, but bright and sunny here in Chicagoland. Most people have shoveled their sidewalks, so the brief run was pretty uneventful, by which I mean, I didn’t slid beneath a car or crack my tailbone. I took the dog with me; the last time we went to the vet, she said the dog needed to lose about 5 lbs. I stepped on a scale this weekend, and it also said I’ve gained about 5 lbs since the marathon.

Dog is now exhausted. I bought this big bed for her, on sale at TJ Maxx, and I think it’s the best $30 I’ve ever spent because she seems to like her bed, and I glom on to any little evidence that she’s happy as proof that I am not a terrible dog mother.

I tentatively have 3 marathons scheduled for the new year: for sure the Lake Geneva Marathon (they were giving free entries to Chicago Marathon refugees, and it looks like a nice race, so why not?), and maybe to the Bay Shore Marathon and the San Francisco Marathon. I did the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in October (2007), and wow, what a beautiful city to run in. Yes, there were hills, and yes, hills can be challenging for us flat-landers, but I wasn’t out there to qualify for Boston, so *gasp* I walked part of the hills.

I’m still formulating some of my running goals for 2008. In addition to the marathon(s), I’m still determined to get a team together for the Madison-to-Chicago relay, lead as many training groups as CARA will let me, complete a summer’s worth of speed workouts, and do some volunteering at races instead of running everything. I would also like to volunteer for the summer water stations hosted by Fleet Feet. I would also like to make it to more Wednesday night women’s runs at Fleet Feet.

The dog is sleeping soundly. Dear beast.
